The Puggle: December 2022 edition

For our final Puggle of the year, we center the voices and hopes of girls themselves to hear what they dream for their future education. May we all continue to help make their wishes come true in the year ahead.

As you read the wishes of girls’ below, keep this festive tune in mind to sing along with The Sound of Music’s “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things” 🎶

This wish list draws from the following initiatives, which aimed to elevate girls’ own voices in education decision-making in 2022: 

1. Malala Fund’s Girl Fellow Consultation for the Girls’ Education Report Card. Research and Policy Manager Naomi Nyamweya conducted a body mapping exercise to identify what Malala Fund’s Girl Fellows themselves wish to “change in their schooling and education to help them achieve their dreams”
2. The resolutions produced during MAYEIN’s inaugural Girls in Education Dialogues (GED). 2021 Echidna Global Scholar Edem Ossai’s GED initiative empowered 100 secondary schoolgirls to directly present policy proposals for better education to the Oyo State Government during the first ever Oyo Schoolgirls General Assembly in Nigeria
3. UNGEI’s G7 Statement supporting the commitments enshrined in the G7 Declaration on Girls’ Education: Recovering from COVID-19 and Unlocking Agenda 2030.
4. UNGEI’s Youth Declaration on Transforming Education, which aims to ensure that young people’s views and wishes for education are included in political decision-making.
